Schon mit ihrem ersten Album “Tanz’ von innen” beeindruckte das Divinerinnen-Ensemble mit diesem schlanken Klangideal, das den typischen Sound der Wiener Unterhaltungsmusik herausfordert. Drei Jahre später folgt nun das neue Album “divinerisch!”, für das die sieben Musikerinnen ihren Stil destilliert und ausgelüftet zu haben scheinen – der Landler klingt nicht nach Ledersohlen auf einem Holzboden, sondern nach nackten Füßen auf einer Sommerwiese. Die gemütliche Betthupferl-Schwere der späten Stunde, des Weins und der Geselligkeit, die viele mit Wiener Musik verbinden, ist ihre Sache überhaupt nicht. Das Divinerinnen-Ensemble verleiht den Melodien einen radikalen Hauch von Frische. Und wenn man zuhört, merkt man, dass man, so gerne man sich auch ab und zu in Melancholie und Weltschmerz suhlt, gerade jetzt einen Neuanfang und Klarheit braucht.

Arseniy Gusev’s performances have been described as a blend of superb technical proficiency and lyrical romanticism seldom found in equal measure, especially in one so young.

Can music be truly given? It is a shared experience, but people never have less after sharing; in fact, they often have more. When King Friedrich II, according to the famous story, shared his musical theme with Bach, Bach offered him much more in return—a little universe with the King’s theme in the center. The Musical Offering is Bach’s view on how to model an ideal kingdom, a kingdom of sounds. When I was modeling the program for this album, I was thinking about it in a cosmological and partly political fashion as well—by creating an environment where pieces composed centuries apart can co-exist in a harmonious way, representing my values and beliefs to their fullest possible extent.

The album contains recordings of two compositions by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, which the pianists gladly played – Concerto in a minor and Fantasia Polska. They were created in the youthful period of the composer’s work, but they are characterized by the maturity of the composer’s workshop, the richness of the melody and the full swing of the instrumentation. Both in the fantasy and in the concert, the spirit of Polish music is present – in the construction of motifs, harmonica and feisty rhythms of Mazur and Krakowiak. Pompous orchestral fragments intertwine with lyrical ones, especially noteworthy are the beautiful piano solos accompanied by violin and cello solo in 2. parts of the concert. Both compositions have a clear virtuoso feature, but it remains in the background in terms of musical content. Young performers perfectly feel the character of Paderewski’s music, in their interpretation it is full of passion, pride, nostalgia, but also wit, expressing the unchanging qualities of the Polish soul for centuries.

This double album of Dubra’s organ music, performed by Ilze and Aigars Reinis on the famous F E Walcker organ of Riga Cathedral, was recorded in the composer’s anniversary year, collecting everything he has composed for organ, thus far.

Regarding further collaboration with the organ, the composer himself says I believe that it will continue…”Organs have always been important to me, even when not considering my childhood during the occupation, my grandparents’ involvement with the church, even then, allowed me the opportunity to feel and love the magical sound of this instrument. And that has slowly developed… In the 1990s, in an unexpected way, I became an organist, and then I felt this closeness even more. Then began my frst attempts to compose for this instrument, and this continues to this day, and, in a surprising way, it reveals things that I would have been doubtful about had I not had this relationship with the organ, for example, how fantastic it is to write fugues… I believe that will continue.”

She spent her childhood and youth in the Arctic Circle, looking out of the window at the polar sea with its clear air, observing the seemingly chiselled slabs of ice in the winter and enjoying the magical colours of the tundra in the summer. It was a life that shaped her pianistic sense of clarity, structure and colour, giving rise to an almost timid sensitivity and profound emotion.In her album Rachmaninov – Early piano works: The Depth of the Unspoken she showed herself to be a brilliant interpreter of Rachmaninov, drawing on “great feeling and astonishingly creative energy and depth” (Concerti) to impressive effect. Her CD Turning Point once again captured her instinctive flair for and affinity with the Russian composer’s music. Her versatility was notably demonstrated by her highly acclaimed live recordings of piano concertos by Mozart and Chopin and Brahms, made in collaboration with the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn under the button of Heribert Beissel. All three recordings feature an impressive transparency and lightness while eschewing expressive virtuosity and exaggerated pathos: “a notable moment in the history of Chopin interpretation” (Fanfare); “a sense of spontaneous invention” in Mozart’s K271 (Gramophone) and “an expressive depth” in Brahms’s 1st Piano Concerto (BBC Music Magazine).

The update for modern Power and Melodic Metal will be coming sooner as expected – with a new album called “A Virtual World” the Swedish Power Metal quintet METALITE returns to the metal dancefloor. Not even 1,5 years after they returned with their new singer Erica Ohlsson – who brought in a massive amount of energy and musicianship to increase the impact for the new heroes of Modern Metal – trendsetting, epic and of the highest quality.This match made in heaven has been celebrated with an album that – even for Scandianvian standards – could be called a rarity. Their opus „Biomechanicals“ (2019) was influenced by the concept of bands like Within Temptation, Amaranthe and Delain but at the same time the band from Stockholm reinvents classic Melodic Metal – unleashing a storm of power, monumentality and zeitgeist that you cannot escape.

Like they have started on “Biomechanicals”, the Swedes continue to expertly make use of electronic elements, influenced by the Trance Era of early 21st century: spheric layers mix with vibrating sequences and pulsating beats fitting like a second skin for the massive, melodic and outrageously catchy wall of sound. Guitarist Edwin Premberg states: “We see ourselves as a modern band that works differently than most of the Melodic Metal bands out there“. They absolutely do, and they are extremely successful with the musical formula and the niche they have found for themselves. Excellent songwriting and catchy hooks empowered by base of sweeping synths and held together by a voice simultaneously strong and light at the same time. This is something only METALITE does these days and they do it gorgeously, refined by another high-end production of Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe a.m.m.).

A new album is always a chance to go for new lyrical issues and horizons – METALITE have found a topic that is as inexhaustible as much as technological innovation holds unexplored and unexpected possibilities for the future. And so they continue to draw a picture of a modern utopia on “A Virtual World”, not as dark as on the last album “Biomechanicals”, rather showing more hope and perspective of how our future world can – and should – look like.

Himalayan is the third studio album by the British rock band Band of Skulls, released on 31 March 2014 through Electric Blues Records.Released in 2012, Sweet Sour saw the bluesy Southampton guitar rock trio moving out of the garage and into a flat, offering up a lustrous, loud, and wistful (yet still gritty enough to evoke a few White Stripes comparisons) set of moody English alt-rock confections that provided a little distance from the myriad American post-garage rock revivalists that they’re so often lumped in with. Himalayan, the trio’s third long-player, takes one step forward and two steps back by dousing everything in a slick coating of chrome (thanks in large part to Yeah Yeah Yeahs producer Nick Launay), positioning the group somewhere between the cool, calculated swagger of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the equally copacetic posturing of the Duke Spirit. The sleek, cylindrical, and relatively soulless opener “Asleep at the Wheel” serves as the obvious litmus test, delivering an immaculately rendered sonic assault that’s all style and no substance, sounding a bit like Muse attempting a Black Keys song, or vice versa. It’s a template that’s used with great frequency throughout the album’s 12 cuts, many of which manage to just skate by on their manufactured panache, but there are occasions when the extra dollop of polish elevates instead of over-inflates, like on the relentless, piston-like “Hoochie Coochie,” the lush and languid closer “Get Yourself Together,” and the brooding, midnight-black highway rocker “I Feel Like Ten Men, Nine Dead and One Dying,” the latter of which fuses the ghoulish retro-rockabilly gait of “Hollywood Babylon”-era Misfits with the meaty riffage of Icky Thump. Once again, Band of Skulls have proven that they have the chops and the moxie, but they still need more than a handful of memorable songs to seal the deal. – James Christopher Monger

Eydie Gormé (/ˈiːdi/ EE-dee; born Edith Gormezano; August 16, 1928 – August 10, 2013) was an American singer who achieved notable success in pop, Latin, and jazz genres. She sang solo and in the duo Steve and Eydie with her husband, Steve Lawrence, on albums and television. She also performed on Broadway and in Las Vegas.Born in the Bronx, New York, Gormé began her career singing in a band on weekends while working as a translator. She gained prominence after appearing on the radio program Cita Con Eydie and changing her name for easier pronunciation. Gormé’s career took off in the early 1950s, starting with her two-month stint with the Tommy Tucker band, followed by a year with Tex Beneke’s band. She signed with Coral Records in 1952, releasing her first single and later joining The Tonight Show, where she met Lawrence. The duo’s success included the hits “Too Close for Comfort” and “Blame It on the Bossa Nova”, with Gormé also achieving solo success and earning Grammy Awards and nominations.
