茅原実里のデビュー10周年を記念して、オリジナルアルバム5タイトルのハイレゾ配信がスタート！

「Parade」は、2008年11月にCDリリースされた2ndアルバムで、
TVアニメ『喰霊―零―』OPテーマ「Paradise Lost」のアレンジバージョンを初めとする、14曲が収録されている。
1stアルバム「Contact」同様、作詞は全曲を畑 亜貴とこだまさおりの2人が担当。
作曲・編曲は、Elements Gardenの菊田大介と藤田淳平、大久保薫が多くの楽曲を手がけているが、
「透明パークにて」などで虹音も参加している。

なお、今回のハイレゾ版リリースにあたっては、48kHz/24bitなどのオリジナル音源を、96kHz/32bit(floating)環境にてリマスタリング。
96kHz/24bitスペックのハイレゾ音源としてリリースされることとなった。
なお、マスタリングエンジニアは、数多くの名盤Jポップを手がけている原田光晴が担当している。

24bit音源ならではの恩恵だろう、キレのよいリズムパートによって、グルーブ感あふれるサウンドに仕上がっている。
それでいて、ギターもヴォーカルもリアルさの増した、活き活きとした演奏がとても魅力的。音場的な広がり感も、
ぐっと大きくなり、ストリングスの演奏はまるでライブ会場のベストポイントで聴いているかのよう。

茅原実里のデビュー10周年を記念して、オリジナルアルバム5タイトルのハイレゾ配信がスタート！

「Sing All Love」は、2010年2月にCDリリースされた3rdアルバム。
『茅原実里のradio minorhythm』6代目OPテーマの6thシングル「Tomorrow’s chance」のほか14曲を収録。
前のアルバム2タイトル同様、作曲・編曲はElements Garden菊田大介が数多くの楽曲を提供している。
いっぽう、作詞は畑 亜貴とこだまさおりの2人が担当しつつも、「sing for you」では茅原実里自身が手がけている。

今回のハイレゾ版リリースにあたっては、48kHz/24bitなどのオリジナル音源を、
96kHz/32bit(floating)環境にてリマスタリング。
96kHz/24bitスペックのハイレゾ音源としてリリースされることとなった。
なお、マスタリングエンジニアは、山下達郎を初め数多くの名盤Jポップを手がけ続けてきた原田光晴が担当している。

さすがオリジナル24bit音源というべきだろう、音数が圧倒的に多く、また低域もパワフル。
演奏が一段と印象的に聴こえる。しかしながら、96kHz/24bitバージョンの真骨頂といえばやはり茅原実里のヴォーカルだろう。
今回のアルバムは、普段のパワー感あふれる歌声だけでなく、比較的ナチュラルな歌い方だったり、大人っぽい歌い方だったりと、
曲調に合わせていくつか使い分けているが、そういった演出の違いが手に取るように感じられる。
そういった、茅原実里ならではの表現の多彩さが、ハイレゾ版では存分に味わえるようになっている。
ファンにとっては必聴のタイトルだ。

MAD SIN have announced a new album!

Titled Unbreakable, the upcoming album from the German psycho/punkabilly/rock’n’roll outfit arrives after a decade-long wait for new material and will be released in September this year, via Century Media Records.

When it was all nailed down and as impressive as a properly coiffed pompadour, the band holed up in Kápita Studio in Catalonia, Spain. There, they committed Unbreakable to eternity. Assisted by engineer and mixer Albert Suzmosas and Alicia Marin Martinez, DeVille and his band put everything into their old ball and chain. For maximal results, MAD SIN brought in Sascha “Busy” Bühren [SEEED, MOTORHEAD, ICED EARTH, THE BOSSHOSS, etc] and TrueBusyness Studio in Berlin to master it. The overall production is bright and gritty yet crisp and street-wise. It’s psycho/punkabilly for a new era.

“Creating new works for marimba” and “Playing works by Bach on the marimba” are the two vessels on which I have been sailing through an ocean called a concert career. Although it seems that they are two quite different areas of works, they are in fact connected in an unexpected place and that is what, I strongly believe, led me to open my eyes to the territory beyond the usual horizon. 　

When contemporary composers write new music for me, I always get deeply involved in their creative process even before they start writing the first note. Through my numerous experiences of closely observing how they use their mind and heart to compose, I have reached the point of believing that this must be the exact way that Bach created his music. This belief is the territory I mentioned and it also became the reason for which I dared to give another step forward when I interpret Bach’s music.

While creating new works together with today’s composers, I often propose my ideas or think with them of more effective ways to express their ideas on the marimba. I have frequently witnessed from this experience that not only do they have brilliant minds, but also their way of thinking is very flexible. Thanks to these valuable times together, I started feeling that I could imagine how Bach would have transcribed one of his works if he had been doing so for the marimba.

For this recording, I created a project to combine the two vessels together. I asked three composers to write pieces inspired by Bach and I have placed them in a parallel manner with Bach’s works. The first half of the disc is dedicated to variations, beginning with “Passacaglia” and the second half to preludes and fugues.

Bach’s music continues to be the source of our imagination after nearly 300 years. It was a true joy to see that this imagination bore the fruits of new music which embraces the sensitivities of our time and I am excited to hand them to the next generation. People might think of classical music as the music of the past. Rather, I would like to send a message that we are travelling in the midst of a big current of classical music which pulsates as living music.

The Linkin Park flood of the year 2000 confirmed the rise of nu-metal in the mainstream. Their debut Hybrid Theory opened up new musical and commercial avenues, selling what’s now approaching 30 million copies. Three years after their lead singer Chester Bennington died, the time has come to celebrate. This anniversary box set contains the original album as well as Reanimation (the remixed version released two years later by the band’s guitarist and rapper Mike Shinoda) and Hybrid Theory EP, the group’s very first album released in 1999. Following these albums we find B-sides and rarities, making the box set a particularly interesting release. The album also showcases the band’s love for England (where their music was lapped up) with live BBC broadcasts of tracks like In the End and Papercut, where Bennington holds back on his usually-hoarse voice for a softer take. The same can’t be said for the live performances at London’s Docklands Arena, where we find the tracks A Place In My Head and Points of Authority which end up sounding like a gigantic wall of sound. And then there are the LPU Rarities, the fifth part of the box set. Composed of studio scraps and demos, it shows how Linkin Park evolved and includes Mike Shinoda’s work on drum machines and synthesizers. The group’s electronic side is brought to the fore, prefiguring the band’s sonic evolution and their leader’s solo career. Finally, on the sixth album, the Forgotten Demos bring together twelve unreleased tracks from a time when Linkin Park was called Xero. They were evolving anonymously and had the singer Mike Wakefield in their ranks instead of Chester Bennington. The sound was much more raw and simple. This release, part of harmonia mundi’s series celebrating the Beethoven year, pairs the composer’s iconic and much-loved Symphony No.5 with the far less well-known Symphony In 17 Parts by Francois-Joseph Gossec. The dramatic power and intensity of Beethoven stands in sharp contrast to to the cheerful and gallant music of Gossec. Les Siècles, led by François-Xavier Roth, apply their usual virtuosity and keen insight to both works in performances that are sure to delight.

‘From darkness to light’ . . . ‘Thus Fate knocks at the door’: what with alleged quotations from the composer and the wildest Romantic interpretations, it would be impossible to enumerate all the commentaries that have accompanied ‘The Fifth’ ever since its premiere. Known for its daring and youthful performances, the ensemble Les Barocudas makes its ATMA Classique recording debut with La Peste, a musical journey that explores the theme of the plague. The members of the Montreal-based trio, Marie Nadeau-Tremblay (violin), Ryan Gallagher (viola da gamba), and Nathan Mondry (harpsichord), have compiled a program in which each piece corresponds with an episode or aspect of this 17th century pandemic. All of the composers selected for this album Schmelzer, Castello, Fontana, Pandolfi, Rossi, Farina were violinists, and all of them were affected by the plague, in some cases, fatally. “When Les Barocudas chose the theme of the plague for this album back in September 2019, we had no idea it would become so topical. A premonition? We’ll never know, but it’s clear that a plague-themed recording can’t help but evoke parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Marie Nadeau-Tremblay. Les Barocudas have established themselves as a bold and energetic ensemble whose presence on the early music scene is as formidable as it is eccentric. The trio has charmed North American audiences with their refreshingly unconventional approach to early music interpretation.

Marilyn Manson has announced his 11th studio album, We Are Chaos, out September 11th via Loma Vista Recordings.

The 10-track LP was produced by Manson and Grammy Award winner Shooter Jennings (Brandi Carlile, Tanya Tucker) and one of Manson’s self-portraits is featured on its cover.

To accompany the sinister-sounding album, Manson released the lead single and title track for We Are Chaos on Wednesday, with a music video directed, photographed and edited by Matt Mahurin in quarantine. Through greenscreen and CGI, Manson appears as a dark army of his own clones and even transforms himself into a chaos pill, placed on a disembodied tongue.

“When I listen to We Are Chaos now, it seems like just yesterday or as if the world repeated itself, as it always does, making the title track and the stories seem as if we wrote them today,” Manson says. “This was recorded to its completion without anyone hearing it until it was finished. There is most definitely a side A and side B in the traditional sense. But just like an LP, it is a flat circle and it’s up to the listener to put the last piece of the puzzle into the picture of songs.”

Marius Neset – Tributes (2020)

“This album marks a new phase,” says Marius Neset. “It was the last thing I did in Copenhagen, which has been my life for the past seventeen years.” In late 2019 the saxophonist and composer moved from the Danish capital to return to his native Norway. In “Tributes”, recorded shortly before he left, he marks this point of transition with music that has astonishing freshness – and unmistakably vivid feelings of joy and fulfilment.

The Norwegian saxophonist was already making his mark while still a student at the beginning of those Copenhagen years. This was a player of “hurtling virtuosity” (Guardian) for whom there seemed to be no technical barriers on the instrument, and his star has continued to rise ever since. In 2016 he was included in Downbeat magazine’s list of “25 for the Future”, the first time a musician based in Europe had received this accolade. More recently his prowess as a composer has also been to the fore. Neset has the skill and the focus to conceive and build extensive musical structures from simple ideas. “Tributes” is indeed conceived as a continuous sequence. His music is nonetheless always full of incident, surprises and excitement. Having written substantial works for chamber orchestras, this collaboration with the DR Big Band has a different, and arguably more natural feel to it. As Neset says: “Working with jazz musicians again, it’s more like my home. I know these musicians well from my time in Copenhagen, and I wanted to get back to the joy of playing, to the feeling of each player having freedom.”

Out of a stable of contemporaries, Mark has risen to establish himself as a pillar in the roots and culture arena. Commonly known as the “Dragon Slayer” his influences include American R&B icons of the 60’s and 70’s. His vocal styling and spot on intonation is reminiscent of artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye. Drawing from the greats of Jamaican roots Artists such as Burning Spear, Bob Andy and Dennis Brown, he is committed to the tradition of marrying his militant message with melody in a captivating style. His second release for Oneness Records it’s a heady, spiritually and socially conscious mix of Roots, Dub and Funky Soul – with flashes of Jazz thrown in for good measure.

With “Remz Of The Dragon Slayer”, both the artist and record label deliver a special project, one that is outstanding from beginning to end! Without any doubt Mark Wonder has one of the greatest singing voices and here the listener gets a healthy sampling of it. His vocal delivery is truly spectacular, as can be fully experienced while listening to this collection of tunes, especially because “Remz Of The Dragon Slayer” features a mix of styles he seemingly effortless knows to handle to the max. The album gets going with a tune which is just as impressive as the voice singing on it, the superb “Level With Me Idrens”, coming across a large riddim that sounds familiar to the ears. Compared with the opening track, musically the next two tunes are more subdued efforts. The previously released single “Another Day” tells the listener to take advantage of this day by forgetting yesterday’s bad moves and thanking life. It’s a wonderful inspirational message tune which is just as appreciable for how it sounds as for what it says. This also goes for the impressive “Brand New Me”. Next comes “Voyages Across The Sea”, the collaboration with South African multi-talented artist Crosby aka Digi-Analog. It’s a moving reality tune about the survival struggle of refugees who by the thousands cross the Mediterranean Sea in search of a safer and better place to stay. It’s truly a fantastic start to an album which manages to maintain the heights throughout.

By now it’s clear that “Remz Of The Dragon Slayer” is an album that provides a steady stream of great songs. To those that deserve a special mention belong the sublime cultural piece “Kemetic”, a compelling tune that demands careful listening to its lyrics. “Nubian Glory”, which was a tune from the golden “African Children” riddim, leaps out at the listener. A sparkling riddim underpins the gorgeous “Blessed Ithiopia”, before the gorgeous semi-acoustic “Better Days” drops in. Simply feel good reggae music is offered with “In Tune 2 Di Rockaz”, a solid party tune with a very nice dubby outro which jumps right out at the listener and doesn’t falter at all. The social commentary “Crisis” with its detailed styles of observations is another highlight on this album. And so is “Same King” across the glorious “Retro Locks” riddim (a relicked version of Bim Sherman’s “Golden Locks”). The album’s final offering, “Voices Of The People” with its flawlessly addictive riddim, is on par with the opening track and a joy to listen to over and over again. What a great album this is. Not only is Mark Wonder’s sterling voice so clear and so powerful on his well written songs, the riddims provided by the musicians involved in this project complement him very well.

“One must defend the Hungarian Rhapsodies on two fronts: First against musicians of the ‘serious’ brand who look down on them as showpieces, and secondly, against the piano maniacs who abuse them as showpieces”. By these words, great pianist Alfred Brendel characterizes the Hungarian Rhapsodies, S. 244 by Franz Liszt, which have now been recorded for Gramola by the young Bulgarian pianist Martin Ivanov. The thin line between overwhelming virtuosity on one hand and poetic finesse on the other seems to be tailor-made for Ivanov, who already showed great success with his recordings of Chopin, Schumann and lately with his recording of Liszt’s Sonata in B minor.

Martin Ivanov was born in 1990 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria into a family of musicians and started to study piano at the age of just four. His first teacher was his mother, who worked with him until 2009, the year in which he completed his studies at the “Vesselin Stoyanov” music school in Ruse, Bulgaria. In the period between 2001 and 2009 he took part in 50 piano competitions in Bulgaria and abroad, always with great success. In 2009 Martin Ivanov studied with Professor Oleg Maisenberg and from 2013 with Professor Stefan Vladar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. This institution made it possible for Ivanov to work together with other famous personalities such as Boris Bloch and Michel Béroff.
